What it probably is is some people assume it's an m car and others who know better say it is a normal car. Which it kindof is.
If someone called in and asked if my m car gets 1200 mi service they will say yes. Even though most of is know it's not an m car and doesn't have breakin fluids.
Personally I'm going to take mine in get get the metal shavings out of the system then continue as planned. With seasonal services added in (my salesman promised me minimum 1 per year so that's what I will do).
