It's an upgrade via Connected Drive, same as Online Entertainment can be added.
I add it on my F80 and had it cancelled after a couple of days, the idrive displays of the music are far better in my opinion. You also have to have idrive or CarPlay active if that makes sense, you can't switch between the different menus without turning CarPlay on or off.
Don't spec if on the car buy it when you get the car and cancel if you don't like it. In the UK you have 14 days to cancel it.
