It's not a true apples/apples comparison - if that were the case, we'd all be driving BMW executive demos and save $10,000 before program incentives and discounts and it would still be registered as a new car -forget about CPO.
All BMW's can overlap each other in price so with your argument, you're assuming that a prospective buyer for the M235i Gran Coupe even wants a M340i or even a 3 Series for that matter. Audi doesn't have a problem with the A3 and neither does Mercedes with the CLA - I don't see BMW having an issue with the 2er Gran Coupe.

Not an M340 - an F30. A quick search shows 35 within 50 miles of me, priced at 35-40, which way undercuts the 235.
Couple that with the inevitable death of the basic 3 box sedan and I'm it sure how this will survive. Especially since the coupe version drives much better.
But we'll see! A bad BMW is better than many other good cars.
