BMW thought this of the X2 as well...and that ended up being a 50+ woman's dream car.
Regardless, having now driven both the 228i and M235i (both xDrive), this car is a pretty decent drive. The steering isn't dead like we've had before in the F30 chassis and it's 100x better in every way over the 320. The M235i has pretty good pickup and sounds good (like an S3/GolfR). At 41-42k MSRP 228i, you have nav, comfort access, heated seats/wheel, satellite radio and a moonroof. So after rebates/negotiating this is a sub 40k car.
