They needed a car in this segment. They should have come out with it YEARS ago, and brought the 1-Series sedan over here. But whatever, we finally have something comparable, and that's a good thing. If you don't like FWD-based cars, congrats - I'm going to let you in on a secret people seem to forget on this site daily. Ready? Here it is: THE EXISTENCE OF THIS CAR IS NOT STOPPING YOU FROM CONTINUING TO GET THE BIGGER, MORE EXPENSIVE, REAR DRIVE BASED BMW's. You were never the target audience for the 2GC, CLA, A-class, A3, etc. It's at least as good looking as those cars, if not better, and will drive fine for what it is. We have chastised BMW for years for all the micro niches they've tried filling, but that's not the case here. This is a big market. It needed filling. It is absolutely ridiculous to expect BMW to miss out on their cut of 6000 sales per month, especially since almost every one of them would come at the expense of their two primary competitors in Audi and Mercedes. Every single 2GC they sell is an A3 or CLA/A-class that DIDN'T sell. So get down off your moral high horses.
Well said, and I'd add to that for every "enthusiast" who SAYS they won't buy this car because it's FWD, no I6, no manual, etc. (that wouldn't have actually bought it if they did make with said items) there are 10 people who WILL buy it because of the increased interior room / better fuel economy / lower price that this setup enables.

If reports are the be believed, we still have these things coming up in the "drift machine" albeit with just 2 doors. If you really want / need 4 doors with RWD, gt a 340.
