Packaging. It's simple. My Mk7 has more room inside than an F20 five door by a large margin. And this thing will likely have more interior space than a much larger E90.

And did no one actually drive an F30? Oh boy, it was rwd, and so are tons of other snooze mobiles. If you want to clip apexes and trail brake deep into turns, are you really buying a non M BMW anyway? Okay, why?

This is a daily driver, not a track hound. Not the basis for the next great M car (or sadly, truck.)

I enjoyed a friend's E36 M3 sedan, but we had a B5 A4 at the time that wasn't any larger on the outside but sure fit four adults better.

Now I'm not saying I love the fwd conversion at BMW. Our E84 was great and I'd never buy an F48. I really wish BMW had used the Mini brand, or Morris or, well, anything before creating fwd BMWs, but whatever, if it gives them an A3/A/CLA competitor, cool.
