because it's something BMW chose to make in a manner that's not fitting of their brand. I could buy a 2GC but I never would on that platform. The M2 is another story. Ok let's talk Isetta, e36 and e46 compacts and the Z1.
bottom line is BMW can use existing platforms to have a RWD based set up but chose not to for a few $ saved vs making something even younger generations could appreciate in full they were given FWD. Now a FWD based AWD isn't awful but if you have the option for a RWD based AWD then that's the obvious choice. I don't like seeing brands no matter who it is go down this road because it's a slippery slope
