The US base stereo is actually very good. I don't know about the euro models. If you're like me, you like to turn it up without having the neighborhood hear you. I'd rather have it factory installed, versus some aftermarket job, regardless of cost.
Check out the standard stereo and if its not good enough, upgrade to the "middle" stereo you mentioned!
