question is how well it avoids the typical pock marks on the bumper? are we talking 99% or like 50%? Is there dimples in the PPF after a while? anyone have a good summary of what the bumper and hood should look like after say a year or 2?

We're talking up to 100%. The good films are self healing as well. You need a pretty decent stone at high velocity to cause damage.
Your film will look like new if cared for like you would care for paint. The underlying bumper cover, hood, whatever, should look like new after 5-10 years. No brainer for me and many. I know of countless Porsches, heavily tracked by fast drivers, which have experienced zero film break through after thousands of track miles.
