BMW Puts A Freeze On All N54 High Pressure Fuel Pumps

I guess BMW finally gave in to the reliability issues with n54 fuel pumps. We received an email today from our field service engineer to check manufacturer build date stampings and part number stampings on all replacement high pressure fuel pumps. If they fall within certain guidelines we are to take the new pumps out of our parts inventory and return them.

The issue remains the same, manufacturing defects causing internal seals to be contaminated and causing failure of the pump. This includes the 'newer' 655 part number that we've been using as replacements.

BMW is putting a freeze on all high pressure pumps from their inventory until a new supply of pumps become available. Perhaps we're headed for the days of when fuel pumps were on back order for weeks. Hopefully BMW will come to a more timely resolution this time.

My conclusion from this is that there are many many bad fuel pumps out there on the road and that bad fuel pumps are being/have been replaced with another bad fuel pump.

The service action for high pressure fuel pump replacement has also been put on hold for now.
