It's thin enough so that you can pull it through the spoke and do some up and down motion to get it clean. It's very quick and effective.

I use a cheap version of this as well. Please, please stop bitching and using brushes and go with a wash mit. It takes about 2 minutes per wheel. if you are anal and want to clean beyond the spokes then use a brush but for the average person go with a wash mit.
