I just went through a similar "conundrum"! Although, I'll admit I was heavily biased towards the M4CS and was digging for compelling reasons to for the G8x. I was heavily dissuaded by the front grille and the larger size. And that there was some buggyness of the first model year from my prior experience.

I came out of a 2016 M3 (built in 2015) and went for the 2019 M4 CS and absolutely love it. It seems like a very different car and much sharper and connected. I liked the subtle unique styling bits and the rawness of it as well. My M3 didn't have the executive package (or comp as it wasn't available yet), so I actually gained some of the bells and whistles and don't really miss the creature comforts. Not having storage is a bit nice as it creates less clutter. There are some minor quirks, but overall I feel like it's been a big upgrade.

I personally felt the F8x would hold its place as an iconic car with a timeless design and having a "special" version of it would be cool. I love the look and feel of it all around over the G8x and have no regrets! Good luck and looking forward to seeing your outcome.
