BMW can call it what they like, the chassis is transverse only and they've left the bulky 6 cylinder for the rear wheel drive cars for the purists.
Its bigger than the 1 series, slightly larger than the 2series coupes and the 2GC is there to complete with the Audi s3 saloon and the Mercedes A35 CLA class which have the same drivetrain.
I guess that BMW wished to distinguish the GC from the coupe, hence its name.
We have already had the 2 series coupe released with the b58 engine
