if the E30, E36, E46, and E90 were all " sedans with cramped interiors and perhaps marginally lighter.. " then FUCK YEAH this is what (many - not all- people ) still want.
If I wanted a3 series the size of an E39 5 series.. I would have bought an E39 when they were made. Or I could still get one today.
Some of us PREFER " cramped interiors and perhaps marginally lighter"
Over the last 30 years, I have owned five BMWs, ( 2 E30 M3, one E46 M3 vert, , 2 other E46 convertibles and an E84 X1...) a Subaru Legacy sedan, and two 1990s era Honda Accord coupes. NONE OF THESE CARS IS THE SIZE OF AN F30 3er OR E39 5er.
When I have needed seating room for more than 4, or large/long doors, I have owned two different generation Ford Expeditions for that. So.. BMW go right ahead and make an X7 if you want to try and get my money for a big SUV>.. ... but they are losing money by not making a compact sedan as they did for a couple of decades from the mid 1980s to early the middle 2010s when the E90 ended production). Since I have owned a HELLUVA lot more compact sedans than Large SUV.... and since I have NEVER PURCHASED AN E39 sized vehicle to date... it
sure seems to me that BMW no longer has vehicles that I will be interested in very soon.
I am sure I am not the only person in this dilemma.. and BMW is simply leaving market share on the table.
