Maybe the engine note changed when the fuel cap was opened while idling, after the fillup, or the ambient noise changed from inside to outside the car??
I agree, too early for the additive to work in two minutes.
The aftermarket additives with metal chemistry scare me for the long run as they often are designed to adhere to the fuel injectors to displace the deposits. Adhering to the intake walls isn't mentioned in their advertising.
