Your down pipe will have two threaded exhaust bongs.
One will be located upwards where the downpipe attaches to the turbo. That's the upstream sensor also known as the pre cat sensor. The other located a little lower is a downstream sensor also known as a post cat sensor.
The upstream sensor (pre cat) is a input sensor and it tells the dme how the engine is running. Based on that information (and others) the dme makes adjustments.
The downstream sensor (post cat) is only there to keep an eye on the catalytic converter, nothing else. It constantly evaluates its efficiency. If it falls below or above specified range, it will cause a fault and a check engine light.
So screwing in a extender when installing a catless downpipe into the post cat sensor fools the sensor into thinking the catalytic converter is still working as designed. Some cars require a longer/shorter extender or an elbow but it always works.
Using a quality piece along with high temp anti seize is key.
But again some tuners don't require doing this as they delete the fault.
Hope this helps, I have a pic but can't upload
Btw....Don't spend more than $8 on it
