Anti-Dazzle wingmirrors

Can anyone confirm if its both or just the drivers side wingmirrors that have anti-dazzle capability?

Noticed last night on my 21' M340i MHT that only the rear-view and drivers side mirror dimmed.. didnt know if they can dim individually, or if maybe my passenger mirror glass has been replaced at some point in the cars past.

Depends on year of manufacture, early models had photo-chromatic glass on both exterior mirrors but this was dropped to be driver's side only. Apparently if you replace the glass with photo-chromatic it still works.

That's how mine is MY 2022.

You might not want to replace the passenger side despite it working as you say when you see how much the mirror glass costs!
I know from recent personal experience!

BMW (UK) dealer price for the photochromic driver's side door mirror glass is £344.17 + VAT which is £413.00.

Had my car just over a year and only noticed this for the first time the other day. Sneaky Germans with their cost saving ideas! Does feel a bit cheap IMHO.

You're absolutely right and it's somewhat annoying that you can quite often pick up dazzle from the nearside mirror as well at times, which is how I first noticed it some time ago.

Previous cars from a few years back never had that problem but knowing how much the photochromic mirror glass costs (from personal experience as previously mentioned) I'll just live with it. I'm not about to shell out that kind of money for the limited number of occasions it would be a benefit.

Just in case you were tempted to replace passenger side glass when I changed my mirror caps to the M style winged ones there is no wiring for the auto dimming in the passenger mirror, so not a simple matter of replacing mirror glass.

That's interesting 'greatbm' I wasn't aware of that probably because I never explored the possibility of changing the nearside mirror glass anyway as per my comments in at the previous post. Can't see the point of it since to my mind it falls well into the category of 'diminishing returns' if you get my drift!

This is way more technical than my aged brain could probably cope with... but..... I'm guessing the electrical connection is required to trigger something on the circuit board/chip embedded in the glass laminate which 'activates' the liquid layer within the glass laminate to create the darkening effect? Or have I just drifted off into the realms of science fiction???!!!

My car (320i)was built in August 2019 and only the driver's side mirror is dimming. Maybe early 340i were fitted with both sides dimming mirrors?

You have the jist of it, the outside drivers mirror dimming is controlled from the interior mirror sensors front and rear to determine the amount of dimming. Signal goes to FEM and sent to outside mirror the rest as you suggested, your aged brain is still working well.
