Bridgestone Run Flats
Hit a pothole at approx 50mph on a dual carriageway - tyre deflated instantly, so phoned BMW Roadside hoping for a mobile tyre service to come out, nothing available other than a recovery which, with all flooding/rain going on, would have been hours away.
The tyre was intact so decided to drive the 40miles back, keeping below 50mph, 30 miles in and it fell to bits - Tyre was a factory fitted Bridgestone Turanza T005 What’s people’s experience with driving on a deflated run flats? - I’m in two minds whether to ditch them and get a spare/gunk kit. |

That looks dreadful mate! Never had to test the rft on any of mine but did on my wife’s mini a few years back. Stayed intact…
I imagine if the pothole caused that much damage that could not be seen then it’s decided to let go completely. Not sure a can of gunk would have helped on a non run flat with the impact forces applied in that scenario |

https://www.carnoisseur.com/products...ries-g21-rh218 Happened Friday and can’t get a Mobile Fitter out until Tuesday at the earliest, or Wednesday with the tyres I want. Luckily it happened 40 miles into a 300mile trip - if it was mid way I would have been screwed. |

I have factory Pirelli P7 runflats on my M340i, and way too much experience with potholes and run flats. I’ve had four blowouts in 44k miles, and each time it blew out the sidewall just above the bead. It may be a flap of rubber about half the size of your fist, or it may look like a slice in the rubber. For some reason it’s also usually been on the inside of the tire where it was hard to see. I have the BMW tire and wheel warranty, so each replacement has cost $50.
One of my blowout events was similar to yours, where BMW road service was non-responsive, and I decided to drive to the nearest dealer. By the time I got there the sidewall was nearly shredded, but the wheel bead survived fine. I am now debating whether runflats are actually more prone to blowouts than regular tires. Some have suggested that due to the heavy rubber construction that supports it while running flat, a sudden impact puts very high stress on the relatively weak sidewall. |

I’ve had a few punctures and sidewall blebs with Eagle F1s over the last 170k miles, but no blowouts. I’m ditching the Bridgestones for the F1s this time and I’ve ordered a spare wheel kit for back up on longer Journeys - I can’t afford to loose 4-5 days motoring each time, especially as we’re entering pothole season here in the UK!

Similar for me, I hit a pot hole 3 miles from home and even attempting to nurse it home the tyre was falling apart and coming off the rim

I've got nothing good to say about the Bridgestone Turanza. Popped the first one with 240 miles on the clock. Wasn't much of an impact either. Ended up taking tyre insurance out which paid for itself on the second one. My theory is cold weather plus high pressure makes them prone to bursting. I run mine at 38 PSI rather than the 44 they came with. Plan to swap them for MPS 4S once I've settled on a mobility solution.
When running flat the experience with Bridgestone Turanza is awful. Felt like the tyre would come off the rim. I'd be wary of going 4 miles on flat, let alone 40. The space saver looks good but not sure I want that taking boot space. There is a kit from BMW that puts it under the floor of the boot but it raises the floor up. I'm undecided. |

Just picked up my new M340i today and will see if I also change, switched out run flats for MPS4s on my previous 330d touring and made a big difference to tyre life, ride comfort and grip, though that didn't have adaptive. I'm tempted by the spacesaver purely for long trips as generally use the roof box for family holidays, always feared a puncture in the middle of nowhere.

I have one of these in the boot with my non-RFT. Checked with the local tyre lot to make sure it actually fits, which they say it does. Bit cheaper than your one. https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/produ...19-present-day

Arrived yesterday and tried it on the car today to make sure it fits OK. Decent quality 3T jack and wheel brace. No problem clearing M Sport brakes on the front. Peace of mind for £175. |
